Thursday, October 2, 2008

Randy Vernon has announced his candidacy for re-election to his Fifth Ward seat on Shelbyville City Council in the Nov. 4 general election.

Vernon, a native of Huntsville, Ala., has lived in Shelbyville for more than 20 years. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and is employed as executive vice president of Big G Express in Shelbyville. He is married to the former Kim Blanton and has two daughters.

He is a member of the Argie Cooper Public Library board, the Senior Citizens Center board, Shelbyville Historic Zoning Commission and the Industrial Board.

"It has been an honor to serve the people of Shelbyville for the past three and a half years," said Vernon. "In my time on the council, the decisions I have made were based on what I believe are sound business practices while also considering the present and future needs of our community. If re-elected, I pledge to continue my efforts to promote an efficient and effective city government."
