Q: My air conditioner runs all the time and only cuts off at night. I know it's been hot and my electric bill is going to be higher, but should it run all the time?

A: If your air conditioner has been sized correctly for your home, once we hit the mid 90's it should run all the time and the fact that it cuts off at night seems to indicate all is well. In our area air conditioners should be sized so that on a 95 degree day you should be able to maintain 75 degrees inside. Most equipment will be a little bit oversized so you can maintain a bit lower temperature. Now, if you oversize one too much, it won't run long enough when it's only 75 or 80 degrees outside and won't remove humidity. You will be uncomfortable and this can result in mold and mildew inside the home. Be Comfortable!
