A representative of Reliford Poultry told police a man and woman arrived as employees were being paid and demanded they "hand over all the money."
The employee handling paychecks refused and told the intruders to leave or they would call the police, officers said. Another employee, who was standing by the male suspect, told police he ordered them to leave and was struck in the chest and pushed back several feet by the man. Another employee told the male intruder to leave and he did, police said.
Employees told police the suspects were last seen going east on East Depot in a black Ford Expedition.
Drug charges
A man who police say was arrested for public intoxication for "stumbling" while walking along Madison Street faces drug charges after officers said cocaine was found in his possession as he was admitted to Bedford County Jail early Saturday.
Guards found the substance in the possession of Benjamin Liau, 43, Woodland Avenue, as he was being searched, police said. Liau was then charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution and held on $2,750 bond.
*Comments by a suspect that, "There is nothing illegal in my pocket," as his wife asked for his cell phone upon his arrest Saturday, led to suspicious officers discovering marijuana on Justin Ray Lee, 26, Lane Parkway.
Lee was initially stopped after allegedly driving a car with a broken taillight onto the shoulder of East Lane Street while not wearing a seat belt, Lt. Jason Williams said.
After Lee's arrest for DUI, he was being searched at Bedford County Jail when a jailer found an extra pants pocket, hidden under a belt, with two bags containing a total of 14.37 grams of marijuana, Williams said.
Lee was additionally charged with possession of a schedule II substance for resale and introduction of contraband into a penal facility.
