"Diplomas used in the film were produced especially for Disney in Shelbyville and we are extremely proud of our employees -- not just for the movie but for the important role they play in making a difference for educators and students," said Jostens spokesman Richard Stoebe in a news release.
"High School Musical" began as a made-for-TV movie on the Disney Channel, but it became such a runaway hit that "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" is debuting today, not on TV, but in movie theaters, including the Capri Theater in Shelbyville.
Minneapolis-based Jostens supplied numerous items for the film, including high school class rings created specifically for the film at Jostens' Denton, Texas, jewelry facility. The Wildcat red graduation regalia came from the Laurens, S.C., plant, and the yearbooks were produced by Jostens in Topeka, Kansas.
"The reinforcement of these key high school milestones by such a significant Hollywood production is evidence to the importance of the timeless traditions and meaning behind everything we do at Jostens -- from caps and gowns and diplomas to rings and yearbooks," said Stoebe.
As a tie-in with the movie, Jostens has introduced a contest for students 13 and over to submit stories reflecting the theme of "Senior Year." Memorabilia used in the film will be awarded as prizes. Contest details are available at jostens.com and ourhubbub.com.
