The parade is sponsored by the United Veterans Council, a joint venture of the local posts or chapters of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
According to Veterans Service Officer Gordon Warren, entries are still being sought for the parade. Local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other affiliated organizations are especially encouraged to participate. Entries may contact Warren at 685-4838 or 619-7555 to sign up.
Grand marshals are still being finalized.
The parade will take the normal local parade route. It will form along Lane Parkway, proceed south on Cannon Boulevard to Holland Street, east on Holland to the square, north on Main to Madison, and east on Madison to Celebration Drive (Calsonic Arena entrance).
Because of the parade, Bedford County Board of Commissioners will meet Monday night, Nov. 10, instead of Tuesday, which would be its normal meeting date.
A number of schools will have programs during the day on Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

I know that Veteran's Day is a Federal Holiday and many businesses close for Federal Holidays, but many businesses do not allow their veterans to take the day off. My husband is a veteran, but has never worked where Veteran's Day was considered a holiday. Many times he has been asked by schools or clubs to be a guest, but was not able to attend because of work. It seems that regardless of where you work every veteran should be allowed the day off with pay. Where is the honor, where is the recognition for their service? Many people do get to enjoy the benefits of the day off who have never served or would never consider serving, while to many who have served, it is just another work day. It just seems that if the day is called "veteran's day", then every veteran should be rewarded and recognized regardless of where they work.
Much agreed, writeattitude! Very good point!
