With a younger team this year (five underclassmen), the Lady Feet are working to improve throughout the season.

"We know we've got an uphill battle," Webb coach Stanley Bean said. "The girls are dedicated to have a good season. We didn't know this was gonna be kind of a work in progress this year. So we're not looking to come out early this season to set the woods on fire yet."

The Lady Cougars (1-0) ended the first quarter with a 16-4 lead over the Lady Feet (0-1).

In the second quarter, the Lady Feet continued to hold on. With 3:21 left, Zola Quao made her first free throw attempt; she rebounded her second shot and put the rock back in the basket. Less then 30 seconds later, Lady Feet Elizabeth Lawrence banked a 3-pointer.

This did not stop the Lady Cougars, who went to the locker room at the half with a 22-10 lead.

Quao tacked up the only points for the Lady Feet in the third period with two free throws. The Lady Cougars put 15 points on the board, 11 of those by Alex Martin.

The Lady Cougars continued to score and play defense in the fourth period, allowing the Lady Feet only six points by Lawrance.

"We have to work on teamwork and play better defense," Bean said. "I thought we played hard to the end. We could have very easily just given up, but the girls played hard to the end. We play good defense, other than giving up the layups. The half court defense is pretty good. The girls played hard and that's the number one thing."

The Lady Feet play on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Huntland.
