The Viqueens lost 38-24 but opened the game by played stifling defense to open a 5-4 lead after one quarter.
Community continued to thwart the Cornersville offense in the second stanza to hold a 14-11 advantage at the break.
"We played with good intensity in the first half," Viqueen coach Allison Layne said. "We were a little shaky offensively but we did just enough to have a small lead going into the second half.
"Our goal was to hold them under 40 points in the game and I feel really good about the effort we gave on that side of the ball.
"We did show some first-game jitters, especially on offense in the second half, but we can get that corrected."
Cornersville came out of the gate with a 20-0 run in the third period with Sara Nelms leading the charge with nine points.
The Viqueens suffered through an 0-for-13 shooting drought and were within less than a second from being held scoreless in the third quarter before Jessica Thompson hit a runner at the horn.
Carly Daffern and Aubrey Boyce buried a 3-pointer apiece in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late for the Purple and Gold as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away.
Nelms earned high scorer honors with 15 for the home team.
Boyce netted 10 for the Viqueens.
Community travels to Bell Buckle to take on Webb on Monday at 6.
