The Lady Feet (2-6) had it cut out for them from the very beginning.
Kat Coffey tallied five of the Lady Feet's seven points in the first, including a 3-pointer. The Lady Mountain Lions (3-7) held on tight and went to the second stanza down 7-6.
In the second period, the game continued to be a tight margin between the two teams. With 2:15 on the clock, SAS got their first lead 11-9. This did not last too long and the period ended with Webb up 15-11.
The second half was a tougher fight then the first, but Webb's defense held the visitors to five points in the third.
With 1:26 left in the game, the Lady Mountain Lions inched their way to a 31-30 lead. The atmosphere was still and the Lady Feet were forced to focus. SAS missed an opportunity at the line and the Lady Feet pushed the rock down the court. Coffey sealed the deal and scored with 17 seconds on the clock.
With every team, there are some areas for improvement. The team needs to work on making better passes and making their layups, Grissom said.
"We didn't play our best ballgame," Webb coach Rick Dycus said. "We're a whole lot better then what we showed. A couple of the girls are starting to run the floor. It's a learning experience for them."
Coffey led the Lady Feet with 13 points. Grissom got into the double digits as well with 10.
The Bell Buckle girls stay at home and play Providence on Thursday at 4:30.
SAS 33, Webb 27 (B): Webb found themselves matched up with a similarly athletic team.
The Mountain Lions (3-6) outscored the Feet 7-6 in the first frame.
In the second period, the Feet (0-8) put six points of the board with Dillan Dodson scoring a bucket and two free throws. This still could not stop the visiting team from rocking the basket. Webb ventured to the locker room down 17-9.
"That's a team that's in the same situation we are," Feet coach James Garcia said. "(Grades) 6-12, small, they're in the exact same situation we are, as far as athletics. That's one (game), when you look at the schedule, you need to get."
In the third period, the Feet outscored the visitors 7-6.
With 44 seconds left on the clock, Hayden Cliche stole the rock and assisted Ethan Arnold with a basket. The Feet were only behind 29-27. SAS managed to make use of the foul line where Josh Owens was 4-of-4, putting the letter in the envelope and mailing the Mountain Lion victory in.
"We did fight to the end. I can't call them quitters and I won't call them quitters," Garcia said. "I tried to tell them in the locker room, 'What we do in the first and second quarters is just important as what we do in the third and fourth.' They gotta learn. That's what this for, they gotta learn the game."
Webb heads to Community on Jan. 5 and tips off at 7:15.
