Webb stomped the hardwood in an intense first half Tuesday night against visiting Davidson Academy. The Feet headed to the locker room with a substantial 29-4 lead en enroute to a 52-33 lead against their East/Middle Division rival.

It was a bout between David and Goliath, in which David almost knocked the giant down.

The steam wore off in the second half, but the Feet (8-4, 2-0 East/Middle) held on to what they had started. The performance in the first two stanzas was the core reason that Webb went home with the "W."

"In that first half I thought we defended fairly well," Feet coach Jeff Mitchell said. "We were fortunate, too, that they had missed some shots. When we play hard and feed off that offensively, we play better. We have got to maintain a level of intensity. I wouldn't call it a very mature effort, because we didn't sustain playing that way very long."

Three minutes into the first quarter, the Feet started to spice things up on the glass and had 23 unanswered points until 56 seconds left in the second.

They had control over the rock and made things happen on the boards. Rebounds were nabbed, buckets were sunk, and the ball was in Webb's pocket.

The Bears (2-9, 0-1) didn't seem to have any inkling of a chance and their hopes of victory looked very slim. Webb played everyone on the roster, with seven players scoring in those quarters.

Davidson Academy battled to the buzzer and had an impressive second half. Down 25 points, the Bears took the deficit to their advantage and rocked the court. In the final box alone, they tacked on 20 points. This effort gave Webb a huge run for their money and fired up the opposing crowd.

Logan Burchett directed the Feet with 12 points, including one of the team's two 3-pointers. Cham Cham Quao followed right behind with 11. Hunter Foutch and Miles Davis shared the double digits with 10 marks apiece.

Matt Hogan paced Davidson Academy with 10 points.

Webb hosts East/Middle contender St. Andrews-Sewanee Friday at 7:30.

"It is a rivalry game," Mitchell said. "It's another region game and it's at home. You have to do what you can to try to win another one. So we're gonna practice hard these next two days and really try to improve and see what happens Friday."
