The Walking Horse Trainers' Association knows how to put the "fun" in "fundraiser." At Friday night's "February Madness" basketball games, they filled the gym at Shelbyville Recreation Center with the sounds of hoops and gym shoes, laughter, and lots and lots of people.
The event, which raises money for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and the WHTA youth organization, offered three games, a live auction, and friendly competition for both the players and the audience.
Mostly, it offered a chance to get together and give each other a hard time.

The referees were heckled, cheerfully, as much as the players.
"Did you leave your whistle at home?" called out Zac Wilson of Shelbyville, who laughed and said he wasn't there to support any one trainer. "We're all trainers here."
Larry Lowman of Bridlewood Farms watched from beside the bleachers.
"Too old, too old," he said when asked why he wasn't on the court. "Those days are over. Thank goodness someone younger came along."
The fourth annual WHTA Youth Council Trainers vs. Trainers Basketball was coordinated by Jill Derickson. Past games have raised more than $20,000 for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and the WHTA Youth Council Members in Crisis Fund. About 40 trainers and their staff played or coached.
