Branch bank approved for North Main location

Sunday, March 1, 2009
Shelbyville's planning commission gave its recommendation for a site plan for a Traders Bank branch on North Main Street Thursday.

The Tullahoma-based bank intends to construct a 3,400 square foot branch office to be located at the corner of North Main Street and Hickory Drive.

Blueprints for the site show that the proposed building, which would be the bank's first location in the Bedford County market, would take up 0.77 acres, with a total of 25 parking spaces and three drive-thru lanes.

Also approved

A grading and site plan request from K&L Investments for 415 Lane Parkway and a request for site plan approval for West Cedar Street Townhouses at the southeast corner of West Cedar and Sevier streets, which will contain seven units, were also approved.

The final plat for the resubdivision of lot 8 in section II of the Airport Business Park was approved, as well as a rezoning request from Anna Clanton to change 1813 Madison St. from R-1 (low density residential) to C-2 (highway service district).

Another rezoning request approved was for property owned by Ginger Mashe at 810 Belmont Ave. to be changed from R-1 (low density residential) to C-2 (highway service district).

A neighbor of Mashe expressed concerns about a driveway used by some in the neighborhood that runs through another piece of property from the rear of Mashe's lot. Planning and codes director Kip Green said that issue would have to be addressed during the site planning phase of the property.

Zoning appeal

The commission also met as the Board of Zoning Appeals, upholding a decision made by Green concerning lots located at the southeast corner of Austin Avenue and Midland Road.

John T. Anderton had requested an administrative review over Green's decision to divide the property in question into two lots instead of the three lots Anderton requested.

The lot is zoned R-1, which allows for a minimum lot size of 10,000 square feet per lot. The proposed third lot would leave a smaller piece of property that would not comply with the zoning regulations.

City manager Ed Craig said to grant Anderton's request, the city council would have to change the city's zoning ordinance and commission members also said they did not want to set a precedent with the case.
