The city's Spring Clean-up kicks off Monday and lasts until Thursday. During that week, residents can get rid of all that stuff that's been lying around.
Mark Clanton, director of the public works department, said the clean-up will be focused on household items the city normally does not pick up such as couches, appliances, tires and "anything you've got around your house that's junk."
"You want to get rid of it, this is the time to do it," he said.
All you have to do is put the junk out to the street on the same day as garbage pick up, and the city will take care of the rest. Clanton said this is important because there will be so much junk, the workers won't be able to backtrack on other garbage days if someone is missed.
For elderly and disabled citizens, Clanton requests that they give the public works department a call at 684-2644 for help moving the items.
Clanton said it's surprising what people will throw away that can be salvaged. Riding lawn mowers and even cars and boats have been discarded in past years, although the city could not take the car.
"They throw away some pretty interesting things ... even TVs that people think are no good when they've bought them, and it could be just where you couldn't program them," Clanton said.
The next city-wide clean up is scheduled for the week of Oct. 19-22.
