Bondurant named interim headmaster at Webb

The Webb School Board of Trustees has named Gordon Bondurant, of Charleston, S.C., to be interim head of school for the 2009-10 school year.

Bondurant is a former head of school at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, and Darlington School in Georgia. He was recently head of Porter-Gaud School in Charleston. He has also served as an interim head of school at St. Mary's Episcopal School in Memphis and Salem Academy in North Carolina. He has been in private school education for more than 40 years.

"He is an experienced administrator at southern boarding schools and we are very pleased that he is coming to Webb during our Interim year," said Phil Coop, chair of the board of trustees.

Bondurant will lead Webb's academic and community initiatives while the Board of Trustees conducts a nationwide search for a new head of school. He will live on campus in Bell Buckle.

A graduate of Davidson College with a degree in economics, Bondurant is married to Linda Reeves Bondurant and they have two adult sons who live in Charleston. He is an active civic leader having served in leadership roles in Rotary International, United Way, the Charleston Symphony, and is an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church there.

"The trustees, faculty and students have met with him and are extremely pleased to have an educator of his experience and knowledge at Webb for our 140th anniversary year," said Coop.

Albert Cauz, the current head, announced in March he was leaving his position to accept one at The Baldwin School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the end of this school year.
