To the editor:
How safe are our kids in local day care?
As I was reading the April 29 paper, I see where a large meth lab was busted by cops. (So first, congrats to SD and DTF.) But my concern is the female who was recently arrested for promotion of methamphetamines manufacturing and possession of drug paraphernalia. That's not even the worst of it. She works at a local day care.
Does the state not require to drug test people who watch our kids? Or better yet, do the owners of the day care not check on their employees? Or do they even care?
If there is one person working with our kids day in and day out, it raises the suspicion of who else might be out there watching and caring for our children in our local day cares.

JUST FYI
Daycare & any adult or childcare facilities are made mandatory to do a fingerprint/background check before emplyment can be established...and results must be in hand before they can start!! Drug testing is not mandatory at this time unless deemed necessary & then we are to do a "random" drug test. I am not aginst the drug testing being made mandatory...I think every extreme measure should be taken when children or elderly are at risk. But just as you have your job...your employer may never send you for a drug test unless they feel it is necessary...maybe you wreck a fork lift while in operation or do something "out of the way" while on the clock this also applies to daycares..... If a person shows up & does their job accordingly & is GREAT with the children and there are no indications that something is going on "outside of work".....then someone cant very well accuse another without vital proof or then you have a "discrimination" issue. There are alot of things to be considered. I just wanted to enlighten you a little. You can always go on the Tennessee State website & pull up the Rules & regulations to childcare & read over them for yourself. Have a Great day
