Both suspects are also facing child endangerment charges for allegedly cooking the drug while a juvenile lived there.
Arrested were James Chadwick Carter, 37, of Shelbyville, and Tulane Kenna Maddox, 42, of Wartrace.
Carter is facing charges of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, initiation of a process intended to result in the manufacture of methamphetamine, aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment and violation of probation. He is being held in the Bedford County jail under $45,000 bond.
Maddox is charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, promotion of methamphetamine manufacture and aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment and violation of probation. She is currently free on $75,000 bond.
Both are scheduled to appear in Bedford County General Sessions court on May 27.
According to a report by Detective Sgt. Scott Jones, he, Detective Sgt. David Sakich and Deputy Todd Hammond had gone to Post House apartments in Wartrace to serve a violation of probation warrant on Carter.
Making contact with Carter and Maddox, the officers said they could smell strong odors "that pertained to meth" and law enforcement asked Maddox's consent to search the residence and vehicles for any illegal contraband.
Maddox allowed the search and officers reported finding several substances "that are used in to manufacture methamphetamine." Maddox allegedly told officers that all of the substances belonged to Carter, who also lives with her in the apartment.
Approximately 1.5 grams of meth were found in the bedroom of a juvenile where Carter had been sleeping, the report read. Maddox also allegedly had approximately 0.6 grams of meth in two plastic bags on her person.
The matter of the juvenile living in the home was turned over to Capt. Becky Hord for investigation, and she filed the charges of aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment against both adults.
Meth precursors were also found in Maddox's van, "which was used in transporting meth back and forth to different cooking locations," the report read.
The van was seized along with Maddox's car, which she was in when officers first contacted her and allegedly found her in possession of a felony amount of meth.
Deputy Jimmy Rhodes assisted with the investigation and Wendell Norton of the Methamphetamine Task Force was called out to assist with removal of the substances and a hazardous material unit was also called to properly dispose of the items.
