Little Caesar's seeks approval for location

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Pizza maker Little Caesar's is planning a return to Shelbyville. The restaurant was previously located on Madison St. in the old Bi-Lo shopping center.

A site approval plan for the chain is on the agenda for Thursday's meeting of the city's planning commission.

Pat McMillian has requested approval for the site plan for the new restaurant, to be located at 1207 North Main St.

The building is planned to be a 4,921 square foot structure to be built on the out parcel of the previously approved Microtel site.

Last October, the planning commission approved site plans for a new four-story, 60-plus room Microtel hotel to be located next to the Huddle House and the current site of Dennis Young Insurance Agency, however, the economic downturn delayed the start of work.

A proposed expansion of the Belmont Avenue Historic District will be before the commission as well.

Residents have requested that homes at 502, 511, 513, 517, 602, 606, 607, 708 and 709 Belmont Ave. be added to the historic district.

The Shelbyville Historic Zoning Commission recommended and approved the request in April.

The commission will also begin discussion on design guidelines, which was postponed last month so that all members could attend and participate.

They will review six pages a month and, after they are passed, the commission will also act as a design review commission, and will give feedback to builders on site plans and take a more active role in the process.

The design guidelines are intended to be only recommendations to firms and individuals submitting site plans to the city, but will give builders an idea of what is expected or favored by the city.

Commission members will also look over how the proposed guidelines are currently written and over the next several meetings, will make adjustments.

In March, several members expressed concern about how the guidelines were to be worded, pointing out that the difference between "should" and "will" can be a big issue with some who might want to build here.

I would rather have a Zaxbys or something different . . . we already have several pizza joints here and I hated their pizza the last time it was here.

Oh well, hopefully it will do better than it did last time.

Excellent news.

I do wish Madison Street could be revived.

North Main will wind up over-saturated with good things or town will move out towards the new hospital.

I'd prefer to see attractive homes and enticing commerce salted all over the city so each section of the community draws attention to the next.

(Reducing our dependence on automobiles would be fine, too.)

Seeing a successful business come in affirms that Shelbyville and its people have more to look forward to than stagnation and decay.

When others can believe in us,we can more easily believe in ourselves.

Sometimes, hope and self-confidence have a better flavor than even the best pizza.

Can we get a Starbucks? Please!!!!

Any time we can get a chain business in Shelbyville, it's a good thing. Little Ceasar's always has some great pizza deals including a large cheese for $5.00.

Starbucks?? With the economy like it is, that will definitely never come here.

And really, who wants overrated and overpriced coffee anyway. LOL!

I have enjoyed the new Little Caesar's here in the 'boro. There are several locations and sometimes it is nice to just pull in and get a pizza to go. The ones that are already made have a slightly different taste than the old ones did.

They are still great, though.

I agree. Starbuck's(Starburnt) is overrated. A nice indepently owned coffee shop with wi-fi would be cool there in Shelbyville.

Evil,

Is that the 'Coffee Break'? I thought it closed but today was the first day I had been on the square in Shelbyville in nearly six months and didn't pay attention.

-- Posted by gottago on Tue, May 26, 2009, at 8:23 PM

Ok... then give me the nice mom and pop coffee place with wi-fi access. And good coffee. The Coffee Break was OK, but not the best coffee I ever had.

The owners were sick for a few weeks, but I have seen it open a few times recently.

I don't like coffe but (the Coffee Break) has the best salads you can get around here.
