The man, who officers said was accused of severely beating a woman moments earlier, released the child when backup officers arrived, police said. The victim was babysitting the young boy, she told investigators.
Jackie Christopher Freeman, 41, of Tullahoma, allegedly threatened to kill the woman during the attack at her Oak Street home, she told police after escaping and running on foot more than a mile to Bedford County Sheriff's Department headquarters.
The victim had multiple facial cuts and marks indicating a strangling attempt, police said. She said she ran from the home when Freeman left the room to answer a knock on the door, the report said.
An arriving officer said he spotted a man matching Freeman's description running from the residence and found him and the child several houses away.
Freeman was charged with domestic assault, evading arrest, public intoxication and released on $10,500 bond, according to jail records.
Dangerous drive
Police arrested a babysitter after she allegedly attempted to drive away with a 3-year-old child while highly intoxicated Friday night.
Officers were notified of a "drunk woman driving a car ... supposed to be occupied with three children" at Circle O Trailer Park, Railroad Avenue.
They arrived to find Kimberly McCullough, 36, of Portland, "very slowly" driving toward the trailer park's exit, the SPD report said.
After stopping the car, officers said they found a "small infant child," later identified as the 3-year-old, lying in the back seat asleep. State law requires small children to be buckled into safety seats.
Two other children McCullough was keeping were found asleep and unattended in a nearby trailer, with the door left standing open, officers said.
McCullough was charged with second offense DUI, child abuse-neglect (non-violent) and driving on a revoked license. She was being held on $8,000 bond Tuesday at Bedford County Jail.
Unexpected finds
* A woman arrested for public intoxication told officers she had marijuana stuffed down her pants -- and a bag of pot fell from Cynthia Thompson's clothing, leading to an additional charge of simple possession, records indicate.

* An officer said he found a bong in the floorboard and marijuana in the console of a car during a traffic stop early Saturday on U.S. 41-A South.

Wilson-Casey registered .168 on Shelbyville Police Department's intoximeter following arrest on charges of simple possession and public intoxication, reports said. She posted $1,500 bond.
Swallowed evidence
A man who allegedly arrived at a Shelbyville bar after closing time early Sunday, waving a $100 bill and saying he wanted to "buy some girls," was arrested after swallowing a substance police say they suspect was crack cocaine.
Police said Adrian Palia Hernandez, 20, Sherwood Drive, appeared to be moving the white substance around inside his mouth. Hernandez was charged with tampering with or fabricating evidence after he swallowed the substance after officers attempted to make him spit it out, officers said.

Decorative fountains and yard statues of a sea captain, girl with a pitcher, eagles, gnomes, turtles and frogs were stolen over the weekend from the parking lot of Williams Nursery, South Cannon Boulevard, Shelbyville police were told Monday.

Seriously, that is ALOT of DUIs with no drivers licenses. How do these people get jobs and keep them?
Most of them likely don't work. They are the people who rob and steal and deal dope. The sad thing is most of them bonded out. So keep a close eye on your stuff.
I was wondering the same thing.
Maybe he was referring to Barbie dolls?
They don't have jobs. Wonder how many are on public assistance? There must be a lot of probations running out and they need to put more on the 11 /29 to life probation fees
Lamey
Depends on which bar he was at...
What parent left the drunk to watch her kids I know that times are rough but thats bad
Maybe he was referring to Barbie dolls?

ROFL.
* A wallet left in a buggy at the Kroger parking lot, North Main Street, late Friday afternoon had been taken to the front desk, with $190 of $235 missing, when the owner returned to reclaim it.
That's a load of crap. If someone was going to steal money from a wallet, first of they are going to take all the money, and second, they aren't going to bring it to the front desk.
This guy spent that $190 on something he didn't want his wife to know about. I know how it is.
$45.00 difference, maybe they forgot to deduct what they spent on grocceries in the Kroger store?
