Women charged with prescription drug sales

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

An anonymous tip led sheriff's department investigators to make two arrests for the sale of prescription drugs last week.

Arrested were:

* Kimberly Diane Locker, 43, is charged with possession of schedule III for resale and possession of schedule III.

* Mindy Rene Bowen, 28, faces charges of conspiracy to distribute schedule III.

According to a report by Det. Sgt. Scott Jones of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department, he and Det. Sgt. David Sakich received information that a possible narcotics transaction would take place in the parking lot of Brad's Market on Union Street.

The detectives set up, along with Capt. Becky Hord, "to see if the transaction would take place."

It was only a few minutes when the vehicles that were described to the officers showed up and pulled into the parking lot, at which time, the officers approached them.

The detectives discovered that Locker "was trying to sell 10 Lortab pills which she didn't have a prescription for." Bowen was a passenger in Locker's car.

Jones' report states that through statements made by Locker and Bowen, "that they needed extra money and that's why they were trying to sell the pills."

Locker's Chevrolet Cavalier was also seized by officers.

Locker is being held at the Bedford County jail under $35,000 bond, while Bowen was released on $10,000 bond.

Both are due to make their first appearance in General Sessions Court on June 24.

Why can't people just mind their own business? Maybe they were selling them to feed their kids, pay their rent, etc because they lost their jobs? Why do people get joy off someone else's misery? I never understood a snitch... what goes around, comes around!

Jane: Prescription drug abuse is at a epidemic level in Tennessee. Most people who sale prescription drugs are working class people. MY mom got hooked on pain killers, she needed them. The abuse began before she got cancer. She was buying them from people who needed to feed their children. Now the children of the people who needed to feed their children are saleing. She had to have most of her gutts removed because of this. The key issue here is working, you can do something. If you notice in the paper there are a collective of people who are raising vegetables at New Harvest Ministries on 231. It is a volunteer workforce that wants to feed people. Seven acres of different kinds of plants. People who are in need have this and many other resources available to them. The key here again is they will have to WORK. I have worked in the Medical community for many years. My role was safety/Security,anything dealing with risk. I got called when multable deaths, bad accidents or a junkie came in and went off because they couldn't get the drugs. THIS IS TO ALL WHO NEED TO BREAK THE LAW SELLING DRUGS TO GET FOOD. GET A JOB! PICK UP CANS! GO OUT TO THE COMMUNITY GARDEN. PUT BACK INTO SOCIETY, YOUR HOME, SOMETHING INSTEAD OF ALWAYS BEING A TAKER. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR PUTTING YOUR CHILDREN IN DANGER. THE PEOPLE WHO ARE JONESING FOR THE DRUGS, WILL DO ANY THING FOR THEM. SO IF YOU ARE DEALING YOU ARE OPENING YOUR HOME FOR INVATION. HOW MUCH DO YOU VALUE YOUR SAFETY AND THE FUTURE OF YOUR CHILDREN. WHO EVER THE RAT WAS, I AM GOING DOWN TO THE PD RIGHT NOW AND GIVING THEM 20.00 BUCKS FOR YOUR FINDERS FEE. GOOD JOB!!!

Maybe they were desperate for money too?

Bear: All of that may be true, but what I want to know is this...

35,000 bail for a non-violent drug sale and only 10,500 bail for the guy who beat up his babysitter and then tried to use the child as a shield in the other news story here?

Maybe the baby couldn't press charges?

10 pain pills and that high of bail doesn't add up...

I think most people who sell small amounts of drugs are users themselves, regardless of their socio-economic standing. Selling 10 Loritabs does not sound like a hardened drug dealer to me. It sounds more like a favor among acquaintances. In reality, the pushers are the dozens of people who write the scripts and keep hitting that insurance (or Tenn-Care & Medicare) payment every few weeks in exchange. I know more people who are strung out on Xanex legally, than drink alcohol daily. As a rule, these prescription drugs do not enter our fair town's streets without being prescribed to someone, by someone first. What a joke!

Anonymous tip my big toe. On one hand, it's clear that because they had an ax to grind with the seller so they snitched, or they were in trouble themselves and snitched to save thier own skin, or simply got a monetary reward. But on the other hand, people that sell their meds make it harder and harder and more of a job and hassle for people in genuine pain like myself that are very responsible, law-abiding, decent citizens to get the meds they need to be able to work and live a good quality of life. If I didn't have my medicine I would be ravaged by pain constantly and have no quality of life. In the end, it is probably better to get the seller off the streets, regardless of how or why it happened. I sometimes feel for buyers because they might be addicts that need help or have spineless doctors that are looking out for themselves as opposed to providing quality, adequate care for a patient in pain and the patient has to relieve their pain any way they can, forcing them into illegal activities. I rarely feel for sellers...I can't think of a good reason to sell drugs. Need food, get WIC/EBT cards. Need money? Get a job. Easier said than done in this economy I realize, but it's better than risking everything for a quick buck. That's my spill. What do you think fellow readers?

I agree totally. If you blog on google Monteagle Doctor charged with over prescribing meds. You will see that what you are saying is totally right. In fact google Tennessee Sherriff charged in pain med scandle. The facts are what they are. I understand that we all have in our exhistance have made error in tring to provide for our familys. The real deal is that the two ladies will have an opportunity to turn. I review the blotter frequently. This is a first offence for them according to what I have seen. My mom needed pain meds for her cancer. However she took them like candy because they were so readily available. If you look on the internet you will see offer to sale pain med without prescriptions. The same abuse is true for antibiotics. We have a condition called MRSA. People who take antibiotics for a sniffle are at risk for a bad way to go. Because when they need treatment for something, their body will not react to antibiotics. The abuse of medications will have a pay day.

What really makes me mad is that this is what causes the people that really are in pain catch hell trying to get pain meds.

Shelbyville's finest.

35,000.00 FOR THIS DRUG SALE AND ONLY 20,000.00 FOR THOSE CROOKS WHO HAVE CAUSED MANY PEOPLE TO LOSE THEIR HOMES. OUR JUCICIAL SYSTEMS ARE AS CORRUPT AS THOSE ROGER RITCHS OUT THERE. EVERYONE HAS KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME THAT HE IS A CROOK AND SHOULD HAVE TO GO TO FEDERAL PRISON FOR ALL HE HAS DONE.

Dear Jane Doe...I never understood a person who does illegal acts and expects to get sympathy by saying it was to feed their kids. There are way too many programs around to help people feed them without selling drugs. I have known people who did not work that lived in free housing, got WIC, foodstamps and every other free program around. I worked a full time job and they had more food and money than I did.
