Detectives with the Bedford County Sheriff's Department have recovered a pricey piece of farm equipment stolen more than a year ago and have arrested the man they claim is responsible.

28-year-old Tyler Augustus Mook of Old Nashville Dirt Road was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with theft of property over $1,000 and alteration of serial numbers. He is currently free on $20,000 bond.

According to a report by Det. Sgt. Scott Jones, he and Det. Sgt. David Sakich received information that a John Deere tractor with a front end loader that had been stolen over a year ago was possibly at a residence in Lincoln County.

The detectives paid a visit to the residence and spoke with the homeowner, Danny Corder, and inquired about the tractor.

Corder told the investigators that he had purchased the tractor from Mook, "a guy he worked with about a year ago."

"He said that he and another guy hired to haul the tractor went to Mr. Mook's residence to purchase the tractor," the report said.

Jones also told the Times-Gazette that Corder "had no idea" the tractor was stolen. The detectives then had the victim of the theft examine the tractor, which he was able to identify.

On Tuesday, Jones and Sakach spoke to Mook about the tractor "and through further investigation determined that he sold the tractor to Mr. Corder."

The detectives also discovered that serial numbers had been removed from the John Deere, and Mook was charged with altering the vehicle identification number and theft over $1,000.

Jones estimated the value of the tractor at $9,000. Mook is due to appear in General Sessions court on June 24.

Why do law enforcement personnel get off on having their picture taken with the goods ?

Because "tatersue" they are proud of what they do.

They sure as heck won't get any credit on these blogs.

Exactly. People like to trash them, but who do they call when they NEED help? Certainly not a crackhead...ridiculous.

They get off on doing a job that they love. Even though, and I agree with sirjim, they get trashed by an ungreatful public. Remember that if ever you need help.

I am with ya'll on that. I have know all 3 of the guys in that picture all my life. They are good guys and GOOD at what they do! I also know pretty much half if not more of the department both city and county and everyone of them are good people. If they were not good at their jobs then they would not give a crap if they busted meth labs or if they arrested that drunk person that could have killed you and your family coming home from a nice little family dinner or finding that stolen piece of property. Come on people stop dogging your law inforcment. The ones that dog them sound like to me are the one's that must have issues of staying out of trouble. Get a grip cause again they are the one's you will call when you need help!
