Inmate tries to stash vodka at police station

Friday, May 29, 2009

A Bedford County Workhouse inmate on daytime work release allegedly stashed a bottle of vodka in his work area at Shelbyville police headquarters May 21, police said.

Chief Austin Swing said he found a 1-liter bottle of Skol vodka in the department's maintenance room and confronted Daniel Brannon, 23, of Davis Street.

Brannon allegedly admitted calling his mother on a pay phone at Bedford County Jail and asking her to place the bottle in a trash can at City Hall, police said.

City detectives said this week Brannon's mother, Mary Lynn Brannon, 48, of the Davis Street address, left the bottle. Daniel Brannon told investigators he collected the trash at City Hall, wrapped the bottle in his shirt and took it to its hiding place.

Mother and son were charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution, police said.

Maybe this is a twin brother, ones named Daniel Brannon, and the other Mathew Brannon? One is into alcohol, the other into drugs? Or else this is a major typo? : )
