William Wayne Blair, 46, of Russellville, Ark., became upset when the manager of Dollar General Store, Big Springs Shopping Center, asked if he was going to pay for a bottle of water he had taken from a shelf and consumed, according to Detective Sgt. Brian Crews.
"At that time Blair became irate and went to the aisle where a potato peeler was, picked it up and lunged at the manager and told him to quit following him around," Crews said in his report.
"Blair then began damaging display shelves within the store and, as he approached the front door, knocked over a sunglass display case and breaking several pairs of sunglasses."
State Trooper Patrick Turner, Detective Charles Merlo and Crews arrested Blair moments later as he entered the Goodwill store, still carrying the potato peeler, the report said.
Blair didn't resist until Officer Rod Stacy attempted to place him into handcuffs, Crews said.
Charges of aggravated assault, theft of property, disorderly conduct and vandalism were filed against Blair, who is being held on $12,500 bond at Bedford County Jail. Blair is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on July 7.
Beer offer alleged
A Shelbyville man has been accused of giving beer to a 5-year-old boy.
Nicholas Juan Bartolome allegedly offered beer to a second child in the Chockley Street area before the children told a neighbor.
Bartolome denied the allegation and one of the children's mothers would not press charges after detecting no smell of alcohol, police said.
Police charged Bartolome with contributing to the deliquency of a minor after another parent pressed charges.
DUI charge
An allegedly-drunken driver with a 1-year-old child in his lap was arrested after being stopped for speeding early Sunday, police said.
Authorities say Brian Earl McKinney, 42, Green Lane, was driving 67 mph in a 55 mph zone when pulled over at 12:32 a.m. Sunday.
McKinney told police the child was in his lap because the car's child seat was broken. Police said McKinney denied drinking, but smelled of alcohol and failed two field sobriety tests.
Following arrest, police said, McKinney was combative, cursing and kicking patrol car windows.

Yeph, he could of had "orange" all over his face . William Blair probably needed a place to stay cause he was out of money. It is a cruel world out there and it is hard when you don't work and you don't have anything to eat. Especially in this 100 degree weather. Now he can wait till fall and have an easier time.
