Thanks for cleaning up the Duck

To the editor:

My sincere thanks to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, John Philleo, Mary Reeves and Sadie Fowler for the great coverage of the 12th Annual Duck River Clean-up on June 27, 2009. The informative article and daily reminders and the editorial prior to the clean-up were invaluable in helping publicize this important environmental project. We also are very appreciative of your excellent coverage of the actual event.

Approximately 200 volunteers participated in the 2009 clean-up. It is so gratifying that new volunteers come out to help each year, joining those loyal helpers who have given their time and effort every year.

We wish to continue to promote the cleanliness of Duck River, to protect this great natural resource that runs through Bedford County, and to bring awareness of its importance, including recreational opportunities, to everyone.

Co-Chair Wayne Bomar and I are truly grateful to and are most grateful to the Chamber Beautification Committee, the Clean-up Committee, and those good friends who brought delicious homemade desserts and stayed to help serve lunch, all the businesses and, so importantly, all the volunteers who braved the heat to collect approximately 12 and a half tons of trash.

The environmental project is truly a community-wide effort and our deepest thanks and appreciation go to everyone who helped in any way.

Please see the notice printed in July 9th's Times-Gazette noting the Chamber of Commerce's acknowledgement and appreciation to all who assisted in the successful completion of this project. Thank you.

Helen Garner,

Shelbyville
