Wartrace Park and Recreation Committee's annual hamburger supper and auction was held Saturday night at Wartrace Community Center. The event was a fundraising hit, according to committee chair Jean Gallagher.

"So many people have come and donated things.... We have well over 70 items to auction off," Gallagher said.

The dinner and auction attracted dozens of citizens from the Wartrace community as well as the Shelbyville area. State Sen. Jim Tracy, County Mayor Eugene Ray and Sheriff Randall Boyce were in attendance.

The dinner featured delicious grilled hamburgers as well as tasty homemade treats; such items for auction ranged from handcrafted quilts to action figurines, and tender meats to beautiful fruit baskets.

"We [committee members] are very grateful to the community for all the support," said Gallagher.

The Wartrace Park and Recreation Committee has been involved in maintaining the beauty of Wartrace for years, and it is through community efforts that the committee can continue its work.

All proceeds from each fundraiser go towards Winnette-Ayers Park, Wartrace Gymnasium, the Wartrace Community Center and other projects.

The committee has done wonders with the funds it has received, such as adding a skateboard area and playground equipment for physically challenged children to Winnette-Ayers Park.

Future plans include building a tree memorial garden, in which anyone may purchase a stone in memory of a deceased loved one, committee members said.

Very,very true.

ALL events like this used to be announced well in advance so folks could plan.

Yes... used to be announced... in the Times Gazette

It was announced like a week or two ago in the TG . . . I just forgot about it until the day after. I am glad to hear it did well though because I enjoy the park.
