U.S. Sen. Bob Corker will hold a town hall meeting at the Blue Ribbon Circle on the Celebration grounds in Shelbyville this Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. to talk to citizens about health care reform and the economy. The event is open to the public.

During the Senate's August recess, Corker's staff reports that he is visiting 30 counties across the state and holding 20 town hall meetings.

Tennesseans seeking more information about the event should contact Corker's Nashville field office at (615) 279-8125.

Various congressional open meetings across the U.S. in recent weeks have served as forums for intense debate and protest related to health care reform proposals.

Corker, a Republican, was elected to the Senate in November 2006 and serves on the Banking, Energy, and Foreign Relations committees.

During his service in Washington, Corker has focused on economic and fiscal issues, energy security, and health insurance. Corker grew up in Chattanooga and graduated from the University of Tennessee. He was a successful contractor and developer whose projects included the former Bi-Lo shopping center on Madison Street before serving as Tennessee commissioner of finance and administration and mayor of Chattanooga.

He and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married for twenty-two years and have two daughters, Julia and Emily.

* Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon will have a town hall meeting 7 p.m. Monday at Tucker Theater on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. The event is sponsored by The Daily News Journal. Gordon agreed to the meeting after originally saying he would seek input primarily by telephone during this congressional break.

"He was a successful contractor and developer whose projects included the former Bi-Lo shopping center on Madison Street" .... not so sure I would have posted that under the success column, lol.

Can't wait till Monday at MTSU. Should be interesting.

Corker Is full of Bull ---- I have listened to him and would not beleave a word he says. He is only for himself and likes to put down our president every chance he gets he can go to hell for the lies he has told

What has Corker told a lie about?

The Bi-Lo Shopping strip was very active at one time in Shelbyville. Corker has no control over the economic stability of Shelbyville.

If you like Obama style of government so, instead of making those of us that don't mind working for a living suffer, why don't you take a trip to Canada or England.

I have a hard time seeing why you have the right to the money that I've busted my "tail" for.

Spread my work ethic...not my earned money.

LDwightR,

Why style of government do you like?

Senator Corker has received about $500K in campaign contributions from health professionals and his largest doner was AIM Healthcare Services coming in at $60K. Comparatively, Jim Cooper (although in the House) has received few donations from those in the health field. (www.opensecrets.org.) Does your concerns match that of health professionals and AIM Healthcare Services in which Senator Corker received funds?

If you want Obama care just remember what Obama said about the US post Office.

Corker is the one of the main Senator Dem or Rep that the idiot democrats go to when they want an honest fact check on business impact to thier antics. I thought he was a sham for a while until I started really watching him. He is highly respected for no BS fact talk and a "go to" man. This makes Tenn look good in my opinion, instead of looking like a hick welfare state looking for a hand out like Bart Gordon wants us to look like. I'll be there.

If you think Bob Corker is watching out for your interests, you must be filhy rich, a health industry executive, someone who hates the working class men and women, or in favor of illegal workers. He has done absolutely nothing for working people. He supported the bank bailout under Bush and opposed the auto industry. I for one have no confidence in him or believe that he will ever represent me or my views in Congress.

Everyone keeps fussing about the Democrats and Republicans then do something about it. I checked Pat Marsh's voting record in Bedford Co. as Walter Casey has much well publicized. That is true that he has voted 10 out of 12 Democrat, but at least he did vote. It is untrue what Pat Marsh said that there hasn't been a Republican candidate to vote for in Bedford Co. and that it's the reason he has voted Democrat. Now, it's mighty funny that there were 300+ Republicans that registered Republican to vote for Chris Brown for Bedford Co. Sheriff during a Republican primary. Sen. Jim Tracy, Barbara Blanton, Carl Bailey and a bunch of others at least registered to vote for Brown, but Pat Marsh didn't, he voted Democrat. Brown defends the churches and constitutional rights of others in his campaigns.

Enough about all that. If you are sick and tired of Republicans and Democrats fighting over stupid stuff, here is something to think about and consider. This is the first time your vote would really count in the state of TN. The House is 50/50. If we vote to put in an Independent Constitution Party the people of Bedford Co., Lincoln Co., and Rutherford could make a difference and history, because that candidate could be the deciding vote that could help prevent the two big parties from messing over the citizens of TN. That is something to think about for this upcoming election. We the people would have a say. Let's get this tea party going.

Who do you prefer to host your health care; for profit corporations, not for profit organizations or the state and federal government? And if we don't agree, then why can we not have all the above?

I will ask and find out at Corkers meeting if he has anintrest in the working person here in Shelbyville. I have been out of work for quiet some time due to a work related injury. I want him to tell me personally all will be ok according to his party.

Grit... For profit ALWAYS. Private industry always does a better job than governments and non-profit is just "government lite"

Grit - Do you know what it is that AIM Healthcare Services does? Just because they have the word Healthcare in their name, that doesn't mean that they are healthcare providers.
