Steven Dean Brown, 23, Hickory Drive, was captured after a traffic stop on Madison Street near Whitthorne Street intersection, Officer Waymond Boyd said.
A bag containing 0.32 grams of methamphetamine and a stolen gun were in Brown's possession, police said.
"I pulled him over because his license tag was obscured," Officer Waymond Boyd said. "He pulled over into the parking lot. I went to exit my vehicle and the driver got out of the car and ran. I chased him about 200 yards through a field. He came out on the other side. I tackled him and took him into custody."
A search of Brown's car revealed the meth, a .32-caliber handgun, digital scales and a glass pipe used for smoking marijuana, Boyd said.
Brown was driving on a revoked license and was in possession of a gun he allegedly stole from a Moulder Road residence, police said. The gun theft was reported in July and Brown had been charged previously by Detective Sgt. Scott Jones of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department.
"We had prior knowledge of Brown," said BCSD Detective Todd Hammond, a member of the department's narcotics unit. "He was in the area. Detective Sgt. David Sakich talked to Officer Boyd over the phone and he stopped him."
Agent Larry Campbell, a member of the Metro Moore County Sheriff's Department who serves with the BCSD narcotics unit, was also involved, Hammond said.
Charges of distribution of a schedule II drug for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, evading arrest, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property and driving on a revoked license, were filed against Brown, who is being held at Bedford County Jail on $22,500 bond.
