Gun law signs posted at park
Thursday, September 10, 2009

|
These signs have been posted at H.V. Griffin Park, Never Rest Park and the city's Greenway to comply with the decision of the Shelbyville City Council to opt out of a new Tennessee state law that allows carry permit holders to possess firearms in municipal and state parks. The law went into effect Sept. 1. (T-G Photo by Brian Mosely)

Some folks in Nashville didn't get the memo.
http://www.tennessean.com/article/200908...
Hope it doesn't happen here.
ummmm, quitemike, this was one set of drug dealers robbing another set of drug dealers, while doing a drug deal in a park. had both sets of dealers been carrying maybe there could have been a shootout right there. i am not sure where that would make me feel safer?
I seriously doubt that anyone involved in the Hendersonville incident had a legal carry permit.
Those silly signs and a restriction by Shelbyville City have absolutely no effect on illegal activity. Only the legal citizens are affected by this ban.
You're so right lazarus. Thank the Lord that the other drug dealer wasn't carrying. He must have been scared of being charged with a misdemeanor.
Every time I see a sign like the one pictured it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Remember folks always carry your cellphone and call 911, the police will be there in maybe 10 to 20 minutes. That is plenty of time to keep you from being shot or assulted.\
Yes sir WARM and FUZZY!
Or at least someone will be there in 20 minutes to file the report.
bummer, now the crooks will be armed.. oh well I shall carry my trusty "fist of doom" or my mean face to ward off all would be bad guys.
JIM8377 you are rite on the money. Believe it or not it depends on what neighborhood you are calling from too!! I use to work at a place here were I had to call the police about once a month. It never failed they showed up after it was to late!
A no gun zone is an open invitation to the criminals that pretty much means soft targets.
Criminals don't care about laws, how hard to understand is that?
So the bad guys will have guns and the licensed gun permit owners are not gonna have theirs.
The thinking of the leaders in Shelbyville are the same as here in Chattanooga, Tn. They got their heads in the sand. Seems they want the criminals to be the only ones who are carring a weapon. I don't go to any of the Hamilton County or City Parks in Chattanooga. Yes, I am permitted to carry and do. I always have a loaded gun with me, but wherever they don't want me to enter, then I just don't go to the places that have a Posted Sign of NO WEAPONS. (Parks, Resturants or other business places.) We have had over 60 shootings in Chattanooga this year so far. Four (4) of those shootings were within 1/2 mile or less of my house. Illegal activity does not happen in one spot here in Chattanooga anymore. So rest assured that the criminal activity will go to parks or whatever businesses or neighborhoods they know guns are not allowed to be in. The victims will be unarmed and easy targets for robbery or harm. The criminals are robbing people in resturant parking lots here and also last week, a lady was robbed going into Regions Bank to make a deposit in East Ridge, Tn. Drug dealings are happening in every neighborhood now. Watch where you go, I do, I am armed and ready to protect myself & family from crimes if possible.
My next door nieghbor is an outspoken anti-gun nut. So should I be a witness to anyone intending to cause him harm, I won't use my gun to protect him, I'll just call law enforcement. I live out in the county so it should be about a 30 minute wait. Then I can watch them write reports and put up crime scene tape after the criminal is long gone.
Tattoos & Scars,
You should persuade him to put a gun-free sign in his yard while you put a NRA sign in yours. It would be the cheapest security system you could have!
"Expecting a car jacker, a rapist, or drug pusher to care that his possession or use of a gun is unlawful, is like expecting a terrorist to care that his car bomb is taking up two parking spaces." Joseph T. Chew - usenet posting, talk.politics.guns
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb, voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamine Franklin - 1759
Interesting idea, but if I did have a sign it would read..."I won't dial 911 until I have at least emptied one clip of ammo" (LOL)
The city of Hendersonville passed the same ordinance, dissallowing the possession of firearms in it's city parks. The very next day an armed robbery occured in it's city park. I guess the criminal didn't read the signs.
