Police seek suspect in hit-and-run crash

Friday, September 11, 2009

A Shelbyville man police say crashed into a truck on Blue Ribbon Parkway last week while speeding away from a traffic stop will be charged when found, police said in a report released Thursday.

Darius Deonte Lewis, Cedar River Road, remained at large Thursday, police said. Lewis will be charged with reckless endangerment, evading arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and driving on a revoked license when found.

Lewis was pulled over behind a North Main Street convenience store last Friday night by Officer Jerry Lawrence for allegedly driving with his car's headlights off.

As Lawrence approached the car on foot, Lewis allegedly sped away on Fairfield Pike.

Lawrence said he drove in the direction Lewis went and came across the wreck at the intersection of Blue Ribbon Parkway, Gowen Drive and Evans Street.

Witnesses who identified Lewis to police said he ran from the scene.

Names of the persons in the truck were not available Thursday.

Marijuana find

Officers allegedly found marijuana in a truck during a traffic stop Tuesday night.

Leroy Marshall, 47, White Street, was stopped on Deery Street for allegedly running a traffic light.

Officer Jose Garza said he noticed a joint in the truck's door panel as he approached.

Marshall allegedly admitted marijuana was in the truck's driver seat. Marijuana was also found in the ash tray, Garza said.

Charges of DUI, possession of a schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia were issued against Marshall, who posted $3,500 bond.

East Side,

Are you saying the police ran the Lewis car into the truck and it was done for no reason?

Unless the police were driving the Lewis car I don't see how it could be their fault.

Lewis broke the law; Lewis was driving; Lewis was driving reckless; Lewis has no license; Lewis drove into the truck; Lewis took off....... What part of this is not Lewis's fault?

If the police caused this wreck then by all means, tell us the story. If all you are going to do is make generalized unfounded accusations about the police no one is going to pay any attention.

Except maybe Charlie Sheen and the other 911 truthers.

Officer Jose Garza said he noticed a joint in the truck's door panel as he approached.

That must have been a really BIG joint if he saw it in the door panel as he approached!

Hey East Side;

What have you been smokin? I guess the police are just supposed to let criminals go when they choose to run, right?
