Come Saturday, there will be a lot of four-legged athletes strutting their stuff in front of judges at a celebration.

No, it's not the Celebration, and it won't be horses taking the spotlight at the Bedford County Agricultural Center.

The fifth annual Celebration Pet Day kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Until 4 p.m. folks are welcomed to come up and show their dogs, cats and other critters, watch demonstrations, and enjoy the various vendors that will be on display. All proceeds of Celebration Pet Day benefit Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association.

Admission is free.

Kimberly Warren, one of the event organizers, said law enforcement K-9 demos by Nashville's K-9 unit will highlight the day, in addition to dog training demos, agility demos, donkey cart driving and coon jumping demos by Kay Allen, an appearance by local K-9 unit Tracy Nelson and Remy. Also, a petting zoo, with donkeys, horses and goats, will add to the child- and pet-friendly atmosphere.

For those interested in showing their beloved pets, pick out one (or more) of the following 11 classes that suits your fancy. Classes, in order of go, are "prettiest," which as an adult and juvenile division; "handsomest," which also has two divisions; "non-dog critter;" "puppy class;" "best trick" class; "ugliest" class; "costume" class; "special needs" class; "rescue" class, for those of you who rescued your pet; "I look like my owner" class; and "best in show," which will be offered to first place winners of each class. Best in show will also have an adult winner and a juvenile winner.

Classes are $5 each.

Will there be pets there that need to be adopted?

My family attended last years event with our "rescue " dog and had a wonderful time. I fully recommend it.

~justthinkingoutloud: Yes, there will be pets that need to be adopted there. We are an official Purina Rally to Rescue event. There are over 7 local rescues that will be attending.

Schnauzer Love Rescue, Inc. was to have a booth set up but didn't because of the rain and storms. I enjoyed last year and my personal Schnauzer won 4th Place in "Prettiest Dog" contest!

Sorry Cheryl! Wish we could have made it this year too. Keep up the great work and if you need me, just give me a call!! We'll be there next year with bells on!

Hope all that attended this year's event had a delightful time!
