William Charles Lohn appeared briefly with Murfreesboro attorney John Taylor in Bedford County Circuit Court Monday to have his case continued until next month.
The former minister was indicted last month by the Bedford County grand jury on charges he embezzled the funds from Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church over a three-year period.
Lohn was terminated from his position at the church after the allegations surfaced.
The case against Lohn was presented directly to the grand jury by Shelbyville detectives Brian Crews and Charles Merlo last month instead of the matter making its way through General Sessions court.
Allegations arose during the summer that Lohn embezzled $73,000 from the church. Crews stated that one of the members of the church became aware there were discrepancies with their finances and upon looking at the numbers further, discovered that Lohn was allegedly "writing himself additional checks."
Shelbyville police were contacted by the church's pastor and treasurer, who requested their assistance in the matter.
Associate Pastor David Brown told the Times-Gazette last month that "we are cooperating with authorities by providing them with information and we are praying for Charles and his reconciliation with the church."
Lohn is free on $5,000 bond.

I sure hate reading this. That family is such a sweet one. I keep them in my prayers.
If these allegations are true, I would hate to have stand in judgment for this on the day of atonement.
docudrama,
No one sin is greater or less than the other. We all fall short and need atonement to cover our sins.
The Day of Atonement occurred almost 2000 years ago when the last and final and perfect sacrafice occurred.
Let's not any of us hold our heads so high and be deceived into thinking we are justified to cast the first, seventh or last stone at the man.
You might well be hit in the back of the head yourself during an excited stone throwing you choose to participate in.
What Blessed Assurance said. We will judge as we should through our court system but making personal judgement of what God will do is a little presumptuous.
Yes, the law of the land is not as full of grace as our Lord is.
Only God can judge the man's heart. Only Christ's blood can atone for Mr. Lohn's sin if his heart has any and he desires cleansing.
Mr. Lohn, just like me, has Eve as a distant relative who failed and was deceived by Satan even after having been blessed with a relationship with God. We are not above failing like our ancestors.
Notice in Genesis 3 that after He had chastised them up through verse 19 ......
19In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
20And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
21Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
..........He clothed them.
May Mr. Lohn find comfort in knowing and remembering the Grace of God and the love brought forth through the Blood of Christ to cloth him with.
God knew Mr. Lohn, me and you reading would fail with our free will many times in life and wants us to know He still clothes us with His Righteousness. Throw away our needles and fig leaves and accept the free Gift bought with Precious Blood. Then quitely thank God for his his Wonderful Plan of Salvation and Good News.
I also wish everyone would look at the mature Christian Paul was in Romans 7 and remember Satan chases after a minister just as much if not even more than the back row pew stabilizers. Actually if you want to get Satan after you, start truly serving the Lord.
11For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
12Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
13Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
14For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
We all struggle with and in the flesh.
Throw down your stones and pray for the man.
