A portable DVD player, 32 DVDs, a Nintendo 64 unit and a Donkey Kong game were in a bag Officer Gregg Loyd said he had noticed in a truck driven by Jose Alfonzo Alcala, 21, Peacock Lane, during a traffic stop Friday night.
The bag was recovered Saturday night from the truck's bed outside Alcala's home, Loyd said.
The stolen items' owner said her home was entered between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 4:30 a.m. Saturday. A friend told her Alcala had committed the crime, according to Loyd's report.
The victim said Alcala, whom she did not know, had come to her home, denied the burglary and told her he knew the location of a laptop computer taken from the home Sept. 27.
Alcala was charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property after arriving at police headquarters with the victim Saturday night. He first said the items had been planted in the truck, then said a passenger in the truck had stolen the items, Loyd said.
Alcala allegedly told Loyd during the Friday night stop he had just moved to Shelbyville and was on his way home to play video games. He was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license at that time.
Injury
A Shelbyville woman was flown to Nashville for treatment of injuries suffered when her clothing became caught on a moving vehicle early Saturday, police said.
Sarah Frances Malone was near a car which was leaving a King Arthur Trailer Court home with the driver's side door open, Officer Jerry Lawrence said.
"She was struck by the open door and her clothes were snagged by it," Lawrence said. "She lost her footing and was dragged by the vehicle approximately 12 feet before coming to rest on the ground. She sustained numerous injuries to her head and face areas."
The car's driver, James Allen Flippo of Shelbyville, has not been charged, according to arrest records.
The incident occurred during a dispute between several individuals who told conflicting stories to police, Lawrence said.
Mower stolen
A push lawn mower was stolen between mid-September and Sunday from a Peacock Lane home in Shelbyville, according to a Bedford County Sheriff's Department report.
