Cross country runners from Shelbyville Central and Community braved the muddy, slippery conditions in Fayetteville to take part in the Lincoln County Mid-Week Meet on Tuesday.

Shelbyville freshman Angel Carrillo won her first race, finishing in 24 minutes, 30 seconds. She did not have enough female teammates competing to place in the team standings.

The Eagles, missing two of their top runners due to illness or injury, tied Forrest for first place behind Gerardo Mullins' second place finish after clocking a 20:20. Juan Lopez finished fifth (21:27), Christian Bishop seventh (22:21), Usiel Garcia 24th (24:58), Andres Gonzalez 28th (26:16) and Abdel Grajles 30th (26:21).

The Community Invitational takes place on Tuesday. Central runners are scheduled to participate with the Vikings, Viqueens and others.

Congratulations to Michaela Jones for coming in a strong second and also to Erica Hoffman for medaling in the top ten, both from Community.
