WEB EXTRA: Early voting ends tomorrow

Wednesday, October 7, 2009 ~ Updated 10:34 AM
Early voting in the 62nd District State House race ends on Thursday. Election day is Oct. 13.

As of 10:30 this morning, 2,190 voters had cast early or absentee ballots, according to deputy administrator of elections Andrew Robertson.

Two of the three candidates -- Republican nominee Pat Marsh and Chris Brown, endorsed by the Constitution Party -- participated in a candidate forum Tuesday night at The Webb School in Bell Buckle. An unusual production schedule prevented that story from appearing in Wednesday's newspaper; look for it in Thursday's Times-Gazette.

The third candidate is Ty Cobb, the Democratic nominee. Ty Cobb is the brother of Curt Cobb, who vacated the seat at the end of June in order to take a position with the Bedford County court system.

I felt the need to let the readers of this website know my personal experiences with Pat Marsh. As I read the opinions of some of you, I believe that the people of 62nd Distrcit need to know what I have seen first hand of Pat Marsh as a public servant. I was the high school baseball coach of both of Pat's sons, Rob and John. Pat was one of many supporters that raised thousands of dollars to renovate the Central High School baseball facilities. As many have stated on this website, God has blessed Pat with the means to help in such charitable opportinties, but what has made a lasting impression on me about the character of Pat Marsh is that he not only donated his money but also his time on the manual labor that such projects required. I have read that Pat is only interested with the "big money" persons of this area. My experience with Pat Marsh shows just the opposite. Pat worked right beside myself and many other "average joes" during various projects on countless Saturday mornings. He is as decent a man as I know, and I know that this community would be served humbly and graciously by this man. I am far from being involved in politics of this area, but I wanted to share my experinces with Pat Marsh with you because I feel that many readers of this site might get the wrong impression of the man I know. I have no reason to believe that Mr. Cobb isn't a decent man as well. In closing I no longer work or live in Distrcit 62, but people like Pat Marsh and the generosity that he showed by his willingness to put his actions behind words is why the Shelbyville area is where I always will be proud to call HOME!!!

Were I voting Republican or Democrat, I would vote for Pat Marsh, as I always had a good business relationship with him, and he did attend the forum with Chris Brown. He can't be such a bad person because the democrats keep sending out some pretty expensive propaganda in the mail against him. Hey you guys, that kinda crap don't work with me. Build up your guy, not tear the other fella down. What would you say of Chris Brown if you felt he was a threat? Save your money. Anyway, I am voting my conscience this year. One of those hopey-changey things. Good luck Mr. Brown.

Scott speaks the truth. You would be hard pressed to find a better, down to earth, quallity individual than Pat. The crap I have gotten from the Democratic Party about Pat is not only disgusting but it makes Carl Rove look like a piker. That is the dirtest bunch of garbage I have ever seen and anybody that knows Pat and has researched his history knows this. When you have to resort to those tactics you know they are desperate.

I believe Mr. Brown is an honorable man, and would make a good Representative. However I've got a bad feeling he may not win, and just split the conservative vote. While I always believe in voting for the person, not the party, there is still an overall picture to consider when voting. I doubt any incoming freshman representative, regardless of the party has any real power. He will have to learn the ropes. I don't remember the last time a freshman rep. or senator successfully "rocked the boat". So then we are left with which parties values in TN, most align with yours. I'm not saying to be just a "party" voter, but sometimes you have to vote against a candidate/party rather than for one. If you feel strongly enough about your beliefs, sometimes its the only choice. I'm sure Mr. Cobb may be a conservative sided demarcate, but his party sure isn't. I don't think he kicks puppies or anything like that. It's the people that he will go to for advise and counsel that worries me.

Both parties are sending out negative campaign materials, don't try and make it sound like it's just the Democratic Party. Both parties are guilty. The exchange came out in Lincoln County today also and there are some Marsh supporters doing the same type of crap, making it sound like it's just Cobb/Democratic party putting out negative materials. By the way the information that both parties are putting out are true, otherwise it's slander, and you don't see Marsh taking legal action against the Cobb campaign do you? Ty is part of a union but you don't see him saying he's not do you? Marsh didn't pay taxes in some areas but he is one person in a large company that is responsible for paying many taxes. Marsh is also for cloning and embryonic stem cell research, this is why RTL did not endorse him, because he is not completely pro-life. I did not do any personal research into his condo because property is irrelevant. The Democratic Party was trying to state that Marsh doesn't pay his taxes and owns leisure property. (Exchange articles)So to Larry and Janie Craig, you are delusional to think these things are lies, you should know since you are related to Pat. Also to Dale Thomas, nobody cares how long you have known Pat, you also need to look into the facts not your feelings, the information being sent out is true. If one chooses to ignore the facts that is a personal matter but don't say things are lies when they can be proven and all the proof is actually on the advertisement. So believe the information your getting, but if you want to learn more about a candidate then do some digging. Ty and Pat are both freshmen at running for office but neither will go into Nashville without a heads up. The only real green candidate is Brown.

I have known Mr. Marsh several years and have never doubted his honesty. We don't see him with the smear campaign that Cobb has initiated. Cobb's TV ad speaks volumes for his integrity. Many keep harping on MR. Marsh not paying this or that. If you are in a self-owned business with many employees, then you have people working for you that take care of seeing to such matters. Someone apparently overlooked something. I'm sure many people have failed to pay some bills on time and are charged with a penalty. Mr. Cobb has plenty of time to shoot videos for his campaign, but no time to have a debate so people can ask questions in order to learn more about him? 2 or 3 hours of his time would help a lot of people decide which way to vote. Until this morning I was undecided, but after getting 2 phone calls in a matter of 45 minutes from higher state politicians concerning this election, I have now decided.

All I know is Ty Cobb's campaign called and called and called my house even after I called both what I think was his home phone listed in the phone book and his campaign's number and asked not to be called again. I had already asked a person who called with his campaign to please stop calling. Next came the calls that were a recording. Then came all the negative ads in the mail. I don't know the first thing about anyone running against him except that they haven't harrased me. You can bet that myself and my husband will both be at the polls on October 13th and it will be payback time for all those phone calls. I hate to admit it but otherwise I probably would not have taken the time to vote in this election but now nothing short of being on my deathbed will keep me away. Kind of makes me wonder why the Democratic Party is pulling out all the stops. Someone will owe a lot of favors for all the money that has been spent on this election.

I have got just as many letters from Marsh as I did from Cobb, the same with phone calls.both are guilty.Certain facts have been brought out against Mr Marsh that need to be considered with anyone running for office. why were taxes not paid and why did it go to court and ordered paid by a judge{Mr Marsh said it was an oversite,if this is so why were so many not paid and had to be ordered paid by the court? these cases have been researched and found true.} Why did the teamsters union back Mr Cobb since Mr Marsh owns a trucking co. Why are several of the people backing Mr Marsh owners of big trucking companies 3 of these located in Shelbyville? Most of the people that hosted a fundraiser with Sen Corker are big business owners ,Ceo,Pres or officers of big corps. and bankers WHY is this? Why did some of the Marsh staff say that Marsh did not own a condo in Panama City,Fla when it was later proven that he does own one? When Mr Cobb says he is working and cannot attend a debate what is wrong with a man working hard,Mr Marsh says he has and is successful.what is the differance?the Marsh staff has said that Pat does not know what is being sent out or he has no control about the phone calls does he not control his own election? the same can be said for Mr Cobb does he not control his own race? Can Pat Marsh represent the working man or will his ear be tuned into the big money people that are backing him? Can Ty Cobb represent everyone in the dist even though he is just a working man? It is going to be a close race one that has shedlight on alot of issues, but the bad part of the whole race is 2 men that I really think are good men have both thrown dirt at the other when it was not at all needed. Both Pat and Ty have made some friends in the race and have stepped on others toes and hurt feelings of others and both have LOST friends over an election that neither could control,so who will tell them what to do when elected? I would not want to be in Pat or Tys shoes.
