Marijuana discovered during traffic stop

Sunday, October 18, 2009
Marijuana was confiscated from a man stopped due to "illegal tinted windows" on his car Thursday, Shelbyville police said.

Michael Zakray Demonbren, 19, Wilson Street, was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted $1,000 bond at Bedford County Jail, records indicate.

Officer Jeff Goodrich said he smelled marijuana during the North Main Street traffic stop, asked for and was denied permission to search the vehicle.

Detective Sgt. David Sakich of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department and drug dog Sem were called to the scene. Sem alerted to the passenger compartment while being walked around the car, Goodrich said.

Approximately 1.0 grams of marijuana, a glass smoking pipe, rolling papers, scales and a box of unisex urine "used to pass drug test" were found under the passenger front seat, according to Goodrich.

Theft

A duffel bag containing prescription medication, tools and a rented video was stolen from a vehicle outside a Barksdale Lane home between 3:40 and 3:50 a.m. Thursday, police said.
