Driver leads police on three-mile pursuit

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

A driver who Shelbyville police allege drove over three miles before yielding to blue lights was charged with third offense DUI early Saturday.

Stacie Denette Shipley, 37, Murfreesboro was followed on U.S. 231 North from Heritage Medical Center to downtown Shelbyville shortly before 4 a.m., Officer Jerry Lawrence said.

"She ignored all attempts to get her to stop," Lawrence said.

Lawrence and Officer Mitchell Warren said they had been notified of an inbound reckless driver in a white Ford Escape. Shipley, whose vehicle fit the description, crossed the yellow line once and the white line four times before a traffic stop was attempted, Lawrence said.

Shipley, who police said was too drunk to take sobriety tests, allegedly said she had been drinking vodka and had taken three prescribed Lortabs. She was also charged with driving on a revoked/suspended license and resisting arrest and posted $8,000 bond at Bedford County Jail.

Pot found

Drug charges have been filed against a driver who allegedly almost hit a police unit Sunday night.

Andrew Jackson Ratleph III, 22, of Tullahoma was stopped by Officer Tracey Nelson at the intersection of Shelbyville Mills Road and Ridgewood Drive.

Nelson said she smelled marijuana in the car. Officer Chris Vest found approximately 2.50 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe in Ratleph's clothing, Nelson said.

Ratleph was charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Fake $20s passed

An attempt was made to pass eight counterfeit $20 bills early Monday at Walmart, North Main Street, police said.

The bills all bore serial number IF3890477C, police were told.

A clerk said the bills looked suspicious and left her register to seek help after checking the bills with a pen. The woman who attempted to make the purchase, accompanied by a man and three children, departed without the items while the clerk was away.

The suspects left in a white Dodge Caravan with tinted windows, police said.

Thefts

Two thefts were reported Friday to Shelbyville police.

* A GPS unit, camcorder and digital camera were stolen from a vehicle at a South Brittain Street home Friday afternoon.

No signs of forced entry were noted.

* A purse was taken from a car at Pop-A-Top, Madison Street, Friday night.

Clarification

A dishwaster stolen last week on Anthony Road was taken from one of several duplex units directly bordering the roadway, not from Davis Estates Apartments.

Too drunk to take a sobriety test but sober enough to drive. LOL.
