With seven seniors leading the way, the Community volleyball team will charge onto the hardwood in the Region 5-A tournament in Unionville this afternoon.

"This is the year. If we're going to do it, we've got to do it now," said Community coach Allison Layne, whose team battles Nashville Christian at 5:30 in the tourney's second match.

District 10-A winner White House-Heritage faces Eagleville at 4.

The first two matches are cut-throat with the losers going home. The teams in the region finals advance to the sectional with the 5-A champ earning the right to host.

The Viqueens (4-13) are riding high after the school's first-ever District 9-A title that came last Thursday.

"Winning the district, I don't want to say it's good enough because I know we can still go further. I have it set in my mind and heart that we can go further," senior hitter/setter Kassidy Lane said.

Community is catching fire at the perfect time after posting clearly their best effort of the season during the district tourney. That, together with a regular season schedule that prepared them with three Class AAA foes, and the Purple and Gold are primed to survive and advance.

The Viqueens hope to put together another solid night of passing to get into a bump-set-spike rhythm. Layne said she wants to see her team fill lanes after contact behind the front row as well.

"We've got to do a better job of covering behind our hitters and also covering behind our blockers because when they're blocking and whenever they get a touch, we've got to be right there underneath it," she said.
