Officers, alerted by a burglary alarm, discovered outside and inside doors had been forced and the alarm keypad pulled from a wall and destroyed.
No signs of an attempt to enter the store's safe were found and all money inside was intact, police were told.
A metal gate was opened to gain access to the building, police said.
Thefts
* Two television sets and a Playstation 3 were stolen from a home on Peachtree Lane in Unionville during the day Tuesday, according to a Bedford County Sheriff's Department report.
* Farm equipment and a washer and dryer were taken from a Rippy Ridge Road building between Friday and Tuesday, the BCSD said.
Items taken include a bush hog, antique John Deere plow, two old tillers, plows, a potato digger and an old gas tank.
* A smoker grill mounted on a trailer was stolen from a Thompson Road home over the weekend, a BCSD report said.
Fake bills
Counterfeit $20 bills have been spotted again in Shelbyville.
The bill was passed Monday at a BP convenience store on Madison Street where a scanner confirmed it was fake, police said.
Several local businesses have reported fake $20s to authorities over the past few weeks.
