Gary Latron "Tron" Thomison, 21, of Shelbyville was shot multiple times in the parking lot of Oak Hill Village II Apartments, Detective Sgt. Brian Crews of the Shelbyville Police Department said.
Police are searching for George Aaron "G" Simpson, 24, of Murfreesboro, who allegedly fired the shots into Thomison's upper torso shortly after 10 p.m. "He is wanted for first degree murder and is to be considered armed and dangerous," Crews said.
The incident began when Simpson and three other persons arrived at the parking lot, Crews said.
"What we know is that four people in a Kia SUV pulled into the parking lot. Tron pulls up and sees Wendy Holman and Kasey Maddox, who was driving the vehicle," Crews said.
Maddox has been dating Simpson, police said, and Holman was described as Thomison's "ex-wife" by Crews.
"An argument began between Tron and Maddox," Crews said. "Tron pushed Casey. Words were exchanged and Holman got out of the SUV and said, 'Tron, they've got guns, they've got guns!'"
Officers said they were uncertain if Thomison knew the men were in the SUV, which was described as having tinted rear side and back windows, before that point.
"Tron walked away and shortly afterwards George exited the vehicle and fired several rounds at Tron," Crews said.
Simpson allegedly fled in the Kia, which was found abandoned in front of a Madison Street store about an hour later, police said.
Maddox, 19, of Murfreesboro was arrested on a previous drug charge by the 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force and has been placed on hold at Bedford County Jail, Crews said. Holman, 26, of Belmont Avenue was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge by patrol officers to maintain order at the scene, Crews said, due to fears a "riot" might break out.
Officers said they want to talk to Brandon Holmes, who was also at the scene. "He was there and has information we need," Crews said.
Thomison's body has been taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and to determine how many times he was shot, according to Crews.
