Six indicted by grand jury

Friday, October 30, 2009

Bedford County's grand jury indicted only six people for its October session, including more charges for a man accused of stealing items and selling them on the Internet.

Troy James Neal was indicted on two counts of theft over $500, one count of theft under $500 and a single count of theft between $1,000 and $10,000.

Neal was already indicted on charges of theft of property over $1,000 in August and has a court date on those charges on Nov. 5.

Neal and his wife Kerri are accused of lifting thousands of dollars worth of weight loss and make-up items from the shelves of area Walmarts and selling them on the popular Internet auction site eBay.

Kerri faces related charges in other counties as well.

Also indicted by the grand jury on Monday were:

* George Merle Begley, Jr., 29, sale of schedule VI drug, delivery of schedule VI drug.

* Joshua Scott Cooper, 27, aggravated statutory rape.

* Christopher Gar Gonzalez, 18, theft under $500, resisting arrest, evading arrest, driving on revoked, simple possession.

* Charles Antwain Smith, 32, sexual battery.

* Robert Slaughter, failure to appear.

Mr. Neal has been a "frequent flier" in the police blotter for too many years now. Let's hope he gets what he deserves. If he's taken off the street long enough, the savings in the cost of ink alone might get us a discount on the newspaper!
