Freshman Angel Carrillo became the first Shelbyville Central runner to ever qualify for the cross country state meet.

She completed the 5000-meter race in 20 minutes, 47 seconds, which was a school record and only 6 seconds off the winning time. There were 54 girls in the race.
Carrillo competes for the state championship on Nov. 7 at The Steeplechase.
The Shelbyville boys team placed eighth out of 12 teams.
Gerardo Mullins clocked the top time for the Eagles, completing the course in 18:42 to place 31st.
