A Shelbyville Central cross country runner made school history Thursday when freshman Angel Carrillo qualified for the state meet by placing fourth individually in the Region 4-AAA race at Sharp Springs Park.

She completed the 5000-meter race in 20 minutes, 47 seconds, which was a school record and only 6 seconds off the winning time. There were 54 girls in the race.

Carrillo competes for the state championship on Nov. 7 at The Steeplechase.

The Shelbyville boys team placed eighth out of 12 teams.

Gerardo Mullins clocked the top time for the Eagles, completing the course in 18:42 to place 31st.
