Couple loses residence to fire

A Flat Creek-area couple lost their home and possessions to fire Wednesday, the Bedford County Fire Department said.

Charles and Alice Warren arrived at their Mount Herman Road home to find flames erupting, a family member said. They left in an unsuccessful attempt to find a son who leaves nearby, then returned to what was left of their home.

The fire's cause is uncertain but a wood stove was in use, according to the BCFD.

A Moore County firefighter discovered the blaze, the BCFD said, and local authorities were not notified until 45 minutes later. The home was "on the ground" when the BCFD arrived, a spokesperson said.
