Liberty boys, girls stop Webb Middle

Liberty Middle's boys came out on top 48-21 in an intra-county game against Webb Middle on Thursday night.

The Patriots (6-2) managed to explode in the second quarter, outscoring the Feet 16-5, and held onto the lead the rest of the way.

"We tried to implement some new offense and our guys finally started executing on that," Liberty coach Andy Lawson said.

Webb inched their way to a 26-21 deficit with 3:43 left in the third stanza. However, the Pats defended a scoreless fourth quarter, while their offense topped it off with eight points.

"Eventually we turned up the notch on defense," Lawson said. "I am proud of the guys' hustle and effort on that tonight, especially my younger players."

Trevor Arnold paved the way on the board for Liberty with 18 points and Ben Boyce added 10.

The Feet (1-7) outscored the Pats behind the arc 15-6. Dapo Omitowoju sunk nine of his 11 points in 3-point range and Chris Burgoon tacked on the other 3-pointers.

Liberty 47, Webb 4 (G): The Lady Patriots came out strong and never looked back.

Webb scored once in the first minute of the game, but was unable to score again until late in the third quarter.

Liberty opened up with game with 32 points in the first half, while they shut down the visitors' offensive game.

"We came out hard and our press was able to stop them," Lady Patriots coach Jennifer Gray said. "We were able to get into a good offense and we dominated the boards."

Kimme Bayne notched 15 points for Liberty. Olivia Calvert added 12.

Liberty stays home to play Moore County on Monday. Webb welcomes Huntland to Bell Buckle on Thursday.

The girls game at both gyms tips off at 6 p.m.
