Suspect drops meth in front of officers

Sunday, November 15, 2009
A man accused of possessing meth accidently dropped it in front of police, then allegedly tried to hide it as he stepped out of his car to perform field sobriety tests, Shelbyville police said Friday.

Joshua Lee Taylor, 28, of Estill Springs admitted three small bags of meth belonged to him following his arrest abut 3:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

Taylor was stopped for sitting through part of a green traffic light, then turning without using a signal, according to police.

He dropped a container later found to contain the meth while getting out of his car, picked it up despite orders not to do so and refused to let go when officers told him to unclench his hands, Officer Jose Garza's report said.

Officers said they were forced to forcibly pull Taylor's hands apart before he dropped the container again. Taylor allegedly resisted again when officers ordered him to turn around for a second.

Taylor was charged with resisting arrest, possession of a schedule II drug, driving on a suspended license and violation of the vehicle light law. He posted $8,500 bond at Bedford County Jail.

Safe isn't so safe

A locked safe was drilled to reach an estimated $6,400 worth of jewelry and old coins at a Martha Street home Wednesday night, police said.

Ten rings, four gold necklaces were taken between 7 and 10 p.m., the owner told police.

No signs of forced entry were found, according to the report.
