Smell leads officer to marijuana in car

Marijuana was allegedly found Friday night in a car stopped because a brake light was out, police said.

Christopher Adam Hanley, 27, Smith Chapel Road, told Officer Waymond Boyd a partially-smoked marijuana cigarette was in the center console. Boyd said he questioned Hanley after allegedly smelling a marijuana odor in the vehicle.

Two bags of marijuana, weighing "approximately 48.79 grams," and half of a Lortab were also found in the vehicle, Boyd said.

Hanley was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug, simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia and posted $7,000 bond, records indicate.

Theft alleged

An employee of a Shelbyville restaurant has been accused of stealing money from fellow employees' purses.

Sean Michael Boulton, 24, Enden Avenue, was seen on security video at the Huddle House, North Main Street, reaching into purses belonging to two women, police said.

Boulton was charged with theft of property and released on $3,000 bond, police said.

Stereo stolen

The stereo system was stolen over the weekend from a car at a Landers Street apartment complex, police were told.

A window was smashed to gain entry, police were told.
