Meals may prove costly for suspect

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

A man who allegedly left a Shelbyville restaurant Christmas night without paying for two meals may end up paying a much larger price.

Anthony David Brooks, 20, of Chapel Hill and another man who has not been charged, left La Hacienda, North Main Street, shortly before 10:30 p.m., Shelbyville police said. The other man had given Brooks money to pay for both meals and left earlier, a manager told police.

The manager got the license plate from the men's vehicle. Lt. Mike Baker stopped the car on U.S. 231 North where a restaurant employee identified Brooks.

Deputy Jimmy Rhodes of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department filed an additional charge of simple possession against Brooks, who posted $2,500 bond at Bedford County Jail.
