The Raiderettes placed eight players in the scoring column as Viqueen ball handlers struggled to adjust to being ridden up the court with hands in their back. Their frustration at being manhandled resulted in numerous turnovers that led to easy baskets on the other end for the opponent.
Community (13-11, 5-8 9-A) attempted to duplicate the physical tactics defensively. As a result, Moore County was awarded 13 free throws resulting in 12 points in the quarter.
The Viqueens, meanwhile, were unable to make it to the foul line and had to depend on Aubrey Boyce with two 3-pointers and a trey by Brittany Leverette in a 22-9 deficit going to the second quarter.
Community's offense remained in stagnant mode and the defense was rendered impotent by whistles to trail 40-16 at the intermission.
"We got off to a slow start offensively and dug ourselves a hole that we couldn't dig our way out of," Community coach Allison Layne said. "They played a very physical game and were able to make us take shots outside our comfort zone."
Community made some noise in the third frame behind six points by Katie Leverette and four from senior Courtney Vassar to outscore Moore County and cut the lead to 49-31.
Megan Smith and Leverette drained treys for the Purple and Gold in the fourth quarter and the home team once again had the upper hand in points as they were able to cut the lead to just eight points with 2:46 remaining. Moore County parlayed 8-of-11 free throws in the closing minutes to account for the win.
"If this had been two games we would have won one of them," Layne said. "We didn't play real well in the first half but I felt we thoroughly outplayed them in the second half.
"We have to put together a full game now. The tournament is approaching very quickly and we need to finish strong next week."
Allata Taylor was the game high scorer with 20 points. Leverette added 16 for Community and Boyce had 10.
Moore County connected on 24 free throw attempts in 31 trips to the line.
The Viqueens were successful on six of seven tries.
Community hosts Middle Tennessee Christian on Monday at 6.
