MANCHESTER -- It was a matchup between two teams that had a lot of respect for one another.

Harris Middle faced White County in the Central Tennessee Conference Tournament championship Saturday night at Coffee County Middle School. Despite a valiant effort, the Golden Eagles were edged 29-27 in overtime.

Harris point guard Sterling Smith made a nice assist to Tre Trice for a basket inside the paint in the closing seconds of regulation to even the score at 25-all and send the game into overtime.

Smith scored the first basket in OT, then Blake Lynn scored a pair of baskets for White County for the win.

The Eagles (16-5) posted a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter while the game was knotted at 10-all at halftime.

White County posted a 22-20 advantage after three periods.

Smith pitched in 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead all scorers. He connected on 11 treys over three games in the tournament.

"I'm very proud of this team. They played hard all year and had a great season," Eagle coach Jim Dougherty said. "I thought we played well in this game but came up just a little short at the end."
