Authorities take child after marijuana discovered in home

A 3-month-old boy was removed from a Shelbyville apartment Saturday after marijuana was discovered, Shelbyville police said.

Police were called when a Child Protective Services investigator noticed the marijuana while following up on a referral at the home of Gary Clayton Loyer, 25, Landers Street, Officer Justin Smith's report said.

Smith and officers Sam Jacobs and Rod Stacy said they found three smoked blunts, a pipe containing marijuana and a pack of rolling papers on a computer table.

A further search of the apartment revealed only three prescription pills which Loyer told police may have belonged to his girlfriend. The woman, who is the child's mother and also lives in the apartment, was not charged. The pills were destroyed by police.

Loyer was charged with simple possession and released on $1,500 bond.

Wallets stolen

Four wallets, which the owner did not specify as containing money, were stolen from a Landers Street apartment overnight Saturday, according to police.

The victim, who is preparing to move, told police the wallets were in several packed boxes. No signs of forced entry were found, the report said.
