Webb's girls had a three-point lead with less than two minutes to play and numerous opportunities at the free-throw line to take control of the game, but it just wasn't meant to be as F.C. Boyd Christian escaped with a 46-44 win Monday night in Bell Buckle.

A steal and a layup by Elizabeth Lawrence put the Lady Feet (9-15) in front 44-41 with 2:02 on the clock, but they wouldn't score again.

Olivia Newby scored in the paint just before the final buzzer to give the Lady Broncos their first win of the season after 23 straight losses.

"I'm not going to lie, out of all the games we've played all year, this is probably the most frustrating tonight," Webb coach Scott Dorsett said. "Usually after a loss I tell the girls, 'Let's learn something from it.' I said, 'This one I'd like to stay in your mouth for a little while, let the taste sink in.'

"There's no excuse for not coming out and playing with any more intensity than we had."

Webb was atrocious at the foul line throughout but especially in the fourth quarter when it was a mere 1-for-11.

"If we hit half of those we win the ballgame and we're going home, even playing as bad as we played all night," Dorsett said.

Boyd Christian took a 9-4 lead in the first quarter and extended that by a bucket shortly into the second period as it took advantage of the hosts' clanks at the charity stripe.

Webb missed its first 10 free throws before Maya Porter got one to fall shortly before halftime.

Elizabeth Lawrence scored back-to-back baskets to pull the Lady Feet to within 15-12 at the midway point.

A 12-4 Lady Bronco run put the McMinnville girls ahead 34-24 after three periods.

The Lady Feet turned up the defensive pressure from on the onset of the fourth, which contributed heavily to a 13-2 run that ended with Alyx Walker giving them their first lead, with 3:29 to go, since making the game's first basket.

"It would have been easy to just lay down and just call it a game, but they did battle in there and came back," Dorsett said.

The lead swapped hands three more times before Newby's game-winner.

Katie Sain led all scorers with 22 points for the Lady Broncos. Danna Wells had 13.

Lawrence's 15 points puts her just nine shy of the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Walker contributed 12.

Webb finished 6-for-27 at the foul line. The victors were 6-for-11.

The Lady Feet head to Nashville to take on East/Middle Region leader Davidson Academy tonight at 6. Webb likely beings postseason play Saturday.

Boyd Christian battles top-seeded Forrest in the opening round of the District 9-A tournament in Chapel Hill on Friday afternoon at 4.
