Reed asks re-election as register of deeds

Johnny Reed has announced his candidacy for re-election as Register of Deeds in the May 4, 2010, Democratic primary. The register and office staff record and preserve real estate titles, liens, contracts and other such transactions.

Reed has served as register since September 2002. Prior to that, he worked in the grocery industry, including serving as market manager in the meat department at Bi-Lo.

A lifelong resident of Bedford County, he is a 1978 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School. He is a certified public administrator and serves as the chaplain for the Tennessee Registers Association, chaplain and a board member of the County Officials Association of Tennessee. He is past president of the Middle Tennessee Registers Association.

He is a 2007 recipient of the Good Citizen Award by Shelbyville & Bedford County Chamber of Commerce and that same year received the Outstanding Leadership Award during the chamber's annual award banquet. He served on the United Way of Bedford County board from 2004 through 2009, including a term as board chairman. He was a member of the Bedford County Bicentennial Organizing Committee and was co-chair of its activities committee. He is an elder, a choir member and a youth sponsor at First Christian Church. He participates as a cast member in the annual "Hee Haw & Howdy" show to benefit the American Cancer Society and is active in its Relay For Life program. He is active as a coach in several youth sports programs.

Reed and his wife Kathy, a second grade teacher at Thomas Magnet School, have two children.
