Dog comes to defense of woman in abuse case

Wednesday, February 17, 2010
A dog helped break up a domestic dispute at a Shelbyville home over the weekend, police said.

Adam Liopaldo Bravo, 21, Earnhart Street, allegedly hit a female acquaintance in the head, leaving a knot, put his fist through walls several times and smashed furniture at a Fairway Green Drive home early Valentine's Day morning.

Bravo head-butted the woman in the face before the dog came to her defense, Officer Tory Moore's report said.

"The dog and Bravo rolled around in the floor for several minutes" before another man arrived and called 911, the report said.

Officers said they found Bravo in a nearby creek. Bravo "became irate and had to be assisted to the ground" at the judicial commissioner's office following his arrest, police said.

Bravo was charged with domestic violence and vandalism and is being held on $4,500 bond, police said.

Drug charges

Officers searching for a Shelbyville man early Friday didn't find him, but detected marijuana in his residence and arrested his wife, police said.

Amber Nicole High, 21, allowed officers into the residence to seek her husband, Officer Tracey Nelson said.

The living room, where two small children were sleeping, smelled of marijuana, according to Nelson's report.

High initially denied smoking marijuana but eventually admitted use and showed officers where she had hidden a pipe which was still warm, Nelson said.

The children were removed from the home and the Department of Child Services notified, police said.

Charges of simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed against High, who posted $2,000 bond at Bedford County Jail.

Several others were charged in drug-related offenses over the weekend.

* A man found walking in the roadway on Morton Street was charged with simple possession Friday after "one white oblong pill and three round blue pills" were found in his clothing, police said.

Officers were told a man had allegedly been walking up and down the road for several minutes. Charles Ervin Hill, 45, Alton Avenue, appeared to be drunk and was charged with public intoxication, police said.

The pills were discovered while Hill was being booked at Bedford County Jail, the report said. Hill posted $2,000 bond.

* Four Xanax tablets were found in the clothing of a man arrested for domestic assault Saturday, leading to an additional charge of possession of a schedule IV drug, police said.

David Wayne Henley, 51, is being held on $5,000 bond.

* A piece of a Xanax tablet was also confiscated from Daniel Keith Lindeman, 41, King Arthur Court, following his arrest Saturday on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges, police said.

Lindeman, who was allegedly among a group arguing outside a Madison Street convenience store, appeared to be intoxicated and was "belligerant and uncooperative," Officer David Curley's report said.

The charge of possession of a schedule IV drug increased Lindeman's bond to $4,500.

Tracy Lynn Herrod, 40, of Murfreesboro was charged with DUI during the incident. Tabitha Auberry Heasley, 31, of Murfreesboro and Donald Ray Mahaffey, 47, who police said lives at Lindeman's home, were charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication and Annette Nicole Pace, 21, of Murfreesboro and Terrie Patton Royse, 38, of La Vergne, were charged with public intoxication.

* Marijuana was found on a passenger in a truck stopped for a light violation Saturday on Ridgeway Avenue, police said.

Harold Gene Edwards Jr., 23, Cherokee Trail, and the truck's driver, who was not arrested, appeared "nervous," Officer Jose Garza said.

Garza was given permission to search the vehicle and allegedly found nothing inside, but did discover an estimated 3.23 grams of marijuana in one of Edwards' pants pockets after he got out of the truck to be patted down.

Edwards posted $1,500 bond on a charge of simple possession, police said.

Fake bills

Two Shelbyville stores reported receiving counterfeit bills Monday, police said.

A man described as white, in his mid-40s with long black hair and a bald spot on top and "very dirty looking" used a fake $100 bill to buy two gallons of milk at one store early Monday night.

The clerk told police the bill looked fake but she was afraid to call the store manager to confront the man out of concern how he might repond.

The bill looked to have been printed on an authentic $5 bill, Officer 6602 said.

A $5 bill was passed earlier in the day at another store, police said. A man identified as having been in the store, who has not been charged with a crime, allegedly told police that "his cousin had already been arrested for counterfeiting and he knew better than to do that."
